CARTHAGE, Texas ( KETK ) — Carter BloodCare will host the Carthage versus Marshall MASH Bash blood drive on July 9 to help increase community blood supply for East Texas patients.

Carter BloodCare said summer is often a difficult time for local blood supply as students go on break and families travel. Blood donors can help children who are fighting cancer, people hurt in serious car wrecks and organ transplant recipients.

“All blood types are currently needed, especially O positive and O negative, which are at or near critical levels,” Carter BloodCare officials said. “Critical status indicates there is less than a day’s supply of the blood type to fulfill hospital needs for their transfusion patients. In some cases, without the required blood, surgeries and medical treatments could be postponed.”

Carthage residents can head to Texas Country Music Hall of Fame at 310 W. Panola St. on July 9 from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. to donate.

The Marshall blood drive will be held on July 9 and July 10 from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. at Warehouse 208 located at 208 E. Burleson St.
