Good Hope Lions donate to Big Blue Bus
Gary Campbell, the Washington City Schools food service director, recently spoke to the Good Hope Lions Club about the Big Blue Bus meal delivery. Campbell explained that the most recent count available shows that approximately 1,500 breakfasts and 1,500 lunches were served each day in the city and county, and that these numbers were only made possible by the donations and grants received as no funding comes from the Washington City Schools.
Washington Street bridge reopens in Chesterfield Township after six-month closure
Area motorists celebrated on July 1 as the Washington Street bridge in Chesterfield Township reopened to traffic following a six-month closure. The 60-year-old bridge between Baker and 25 Mile roads underwent a complete replacement as part of the project that started in early January. The $4.4 million project also included bridge approach work on the road.

City of Rochester Hills reopens splash pad after nine injured last month in mass shooting
ROCHESTER HILLS, Mich. — The City of Rochester Hills has reopened the Brooklands Splash Pad after last month's mass shooting, where nine people were injured. As of Wednesday, July 3, one of those victims, a 39-year-old woman, is still hospitalized after she was shot multiple times as she was protecting her children. The other eight people have been released. The victims released, who police have not identified, include:

Man pleads guilty to murder in death of 2-year-old Wynter Cole Smith
DETROIT – Rashad Maleek Trice pleaded guilty Monday, July 1, to killing 2-year-old Wynter Cole Smith and the assault of her mother. The plea comes almost exactly a year after the crime. On July 2, 2023 Trice kidnapped Wynter in Lansing and stabbed and sexually assaulted her mother before stealing her vehicle and killing the toddler. He was arrested in St. Clair Shores just hours after the toddler was kidnapped, but Wynter wasn’t in the car at that time. Law enforcement found Wynter’s body three days later in Detroit amid a search effort.

CENTER LINE — Several Center Line High School students are doing what they can to help their peers who might be struggling with mental health issues.
