The kid's parade begins at 11 a.m. in front of the Historic Haywood County Courthouse. Registration for this begins at 10 a.m.
Harrah’s Cherokee Valley River Hosts Topping Ceremony for New Hotel Tower
MURPHY, NC – Harrah’s Cherokee Valley River continues to make considerable strides towards completing its $275 million expansion project as they recently held a topping out ceremony for its new 12-story hotel tower. The event, attended by Harrah’s Cherokee leadership, dignitaries from the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians and construction team members, provided an opportunity to celebrate the project’s progress and recognize the collaborative effort of those who have dedicated their time to aid in the project’s development. Those in attendance were also able to sign the final steel beam to leave their mark on the new amenity.

ASHEVILLE, N.C. (WBTV) - On June 14, Joe, a Nextbase iQ dash cam owner, woke up to a curious...and rather hairy visitor checking out his car. During a two-month road trip, Joe stopped at his cousin’s house in Asheville for the night. Around 9 a.m., a dash cam notification led him to discover a large male black bear climbing on top of his car, presumably trying to get the snacks stashed inside.
Episcopal Church of St. John in the Wilderness resums free tours in Flat Rock
Guided tours are again available for the Episcopal Church of St. John in the Wilderness, 1905 Greenville Highway, in Flat Rock. These free, guided tours will be held the first and third Saturdays June-September and every third Saturday March-December. The tour for July 6 begins at 11 a.m. and will last about one hour.

102-year-old fighter pilot to receive WWII medal of honor from France
A 102-year-old Hendersonville man will soon receive one of France’s highest honors for his service as a fighter pilot during World War II. WWII P-47 pilot Ed Cottrell of Brevard will be bestowed with the French Legion de l’honneur Medal on July 9 at a public ceremony in Brevard. Other American recipients include General Dwight D. Eisenhower and Douglas MacArthur.
Mission Hospital prepares for nurse strike despite ongoing negotiations
