Del City mayor pushes back on commissioners purchasing land on East Grand
DEL CITY, Okla. — Emotions were running high in the Del City community after Oklahoma County commissioners bought 71 acres of land for a proposed mental health center. The property is located on East Grand Boulevard in Oklahoma City, but it is near the Del City border. Del City mayor Floyd Eason said he believes the purchase of the property for the mental health center is a backdoor way to eventually build the Oklahoma County Detention Center in the location.

City Council hears sales tax collection update
The Guthrie City Council Tuesday was updated by City Manager Eddie Faulkner about the City’s sales tax revenue, and budget planning for the next fiscal year. “We’re working actively on the budget at this time and we have begun the first round of negotiations with the FOP,” Faulkner said. “As we’re working on this budget, we’re watching our sales tax collections very closely. As we’ve talked throughout the year we’ve had a roller coaster ride. We’ve had a high month. We’ve had a really low period of time, which spanned about four months. And then in May’s collections, we were up 9%.”
Caroline Pierce named new HR Director
Caroline Pierce, with more than 32 years of experience with the City of Edmond, has been named the new Human Resources Director. Pierce, who has been in the City’s HR department full-time for nearly 26 years, assumed the role June 8, taking over for longtime HR director Lisa Goodpasture.
Board of Education names new Guthrie Upper Elementary principal
In a regular session held tonight, the Guthrie Board of Education approved the hiring of Michelle Wilson-Adams as the new principal for Guthrie Upper Elementary School (GUES). Wilson-Adams brings a wealth of experience from her seven-year tenure at Oklahoma City Public Schools, where she served six years as an Assistant Principal at Rogers and Taft Middle Schools. Most recently, she was the campus administrator at the Linwood Campus of Taft Middle School, overseeing the education of 5th graders.

Parks Trust meets to discuss final Sculpture Park agreement
The Edmond Parks Conservancy Trust met Friday to discuss the final agreement yet to be approved for the Uncommon Ground Sculpture Park. The meeting precedes the next Edmond City Council meeting, scheduled for Monday, June 10, at which a vote on the final agreement is expected. The Operations, Maintenance and Programming Agreement is one of four that must be approved by Council in order for park construction to begin.
