Cass County Reads events announced
Atlantic - On Monday, Aug. 5, staff at the Atlantic Public Library will be hosting a panel on Farm to Table Sales to explore what it takes for farmers to sell their products locally and directly to consumers. Panelists will include representatives from local farm vendors Brun Ko Farm and Noble Provisions as well as Gilbert and Ardyth Gillespie, retirees raising sheep for local consumption and knowledgeable about our food system in general. The panel will be moderated by Maria Miller.
Cass County Mobile Food Pantry Distribution Set for July 10th
(Cass Co) Cass County’s next mobile food pantry distribution will be held on July 10th. Atlantic’s Mobile Food Pantry distribution will be at the Cass County Fairgrounds from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. Massena’s Mobile Food Pantry will be on the east side of Massena’s City Park from 4:30 to 5:00 p.m.
Gov. Reynolds appoints Ashley West-Joons as District Associate Judge
(Des Moines) Governor Kim Reynolds today announced her appointment of Ashley West-Joons as a district associate judge in Judicial District 4. West-Joons, of Missouri Valley, Iowa, is an attorney at West Law Office and also serves as the Harrison County Attorney. She received her undergraduate degree from the University of Iowa and her law degree from Creighton University.
Atlantic City Council approves parking restrictions for the Cass County Fair & RAGBRAI; Camblin Hills-related matters
(Atlantic, Iowa) – The City Council in Atlantic, Wednesday evening, passed an Order temporarily restricting parking on Palm Street, from 7th to 11th, and 10th Street, 150-feet west of the intersection with Palm. The restrictions are with regard to the Cass County Fair, and will be in effect from 6-a.m. July 27th, to 6-a.m. July 28th.
Cass County Woman Injured in Single-Vehicle Crash in Pottawattamie County
(Griswold) Debris from a passing storm is blamed for a single-vehicle accident in Pottawattamie County west of Griswold. The Pottawattamie County Sheriff’s Office says the accident happened at 8:55 p.m. on Sunday, on Highway 92. A passenger in the vehicle, identified as Jody Rossell of Griswold, was taken by private vehicle to Nebraska Medicine for treatment of injuries.
New regional director named for Iowa Western Small Business Development Center
Elizabeth Christensen was recently named the regional director of the Small Business Development Center at Iowa Western Community College. America's SBDC Iowa named Christensen to the role in Council Bluffs in early June, according to a news release. The center serves entrepreneurs and small business owners in Pottawattamie, Shelby, Harrison, Page, Mills, Cass and Fremont counties.
DEAN EILTS, 84, of Wiota (Memorial Svcs. 7/15/24)
Well-known Cass County auctioneer and farmer, DEAN EILTS, 84, of Wiota, died Tuesday, July 9, 2024 at his home near Wiota. A Memorial service for DEAN EILTS will be held 10:30-a.m. Monday, July 15, 2024, at the First Lutheran Church, south of Wiota. Roland Funeral Service in Atlantic has the arrangements.
2 weekend accidents in Cass County
(Atlantic, Iowa) [updated] – Rescue crews from Anita and Griswold responded to separate accidents over the weekend, in Cass County (IA). Sunday evening, a single-vehicle rollover accident was reported on westbound Interstate 80, just east of mile marker 70. Anita Rescue was called to the scene, where a woman in the vehicle complained of chest pain following the crash that occurred at around 5:20-p.m. Additional information was not immediately available.

(Cass Co) The Cass County Sheriff’s Office arrested 34-year-old Devin Register, of Atlantic, on June 21st on a warrant for Domestic Abuse Assault as well as Possession of a Controlled Substance and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. Register was transported to the Cass County Jail where he was booked and held.

(Atlantic, Iowa) – The Cass County (IA) Sheriff’s Office reports a man from Atlantic was arrested late last month on a warrant for Domestic Abuse Assault. 34-year-old Devin Register was taken into custody June 21st, for Possession of a Controlled Substance and Poss. of Drug Paraphernalia. Register was transported to the Cass County Jail where he was booked and held.
