“New Men Tour” Underway To Empower And Mobilize Black Men

A tour focusing on organizing Black men to organize and get into activism is currently taking place nationwide, with workshops on advocacy and empowerment.
As the presidential election in November is fast approaching, the impact of Black men is set to play a pivotal role as they work with multiple issues affecting the community. Recognizing that, the Black Men Build organization has launched “The New Men Tour”, to mobilize Black men around the country to gather in summits to confront and provide solutions to these issues in holistic ways.

“With prices getting higher, the weather getting hotter, mass genocide happening worldwide, another important election coming up, and our families under constant attack, The New Men Tour is a collective opportunity to Meet The Moment,” their mission statement reads. Each stop on the ten-city tour features a 90-minute Men’s Circle along with a call to action and discussion with local organizations and guest speakers. Workshops at the event focus on economic empowerment, mental health & wellness, and organizing strategies.

“Black Men Build has been holding Circles with our Brothers for almost four years. These spaces are sacred and powerful; they allow us to connect deeply and give us the fuel to keep working and organizing,” said Agnew in a press release. “The New Men Tour is an opportunity for us to grow that work and expose more brothers to that power. We are engaging each other as human beings, not simply as numbers or voters.”

The tour kicked off in New Orleans, Louisiana on July 6, stopping in Raleigh, North Carolina, and Dallas, Texas as well as Detroit, Michigan. The tour will continue on to six more cities, including Columbus, Ohio, and Atlanta, Georgia, before the final stop in Miami, Florida, on September 21.

“There’s a real brotherhood here at BMB and we’re excited to invite brothers from across the country to join us at The New Men Tour,” said Black Men Build field director Carey Jenkins. “This tour is a chance to meet this important moment in time to build deeper relationships with each other and solidify both our organization and communities for the fight that we’re up against.”
