But the forthcoming change in seasons doesn’t affect your need for quality programming, and we got you covered. This weeks picks are all strong options if you’re watching with a partner or rolling for self.

Whether it’s documentaries, cult classic shows, or movies newly introduced to your favorite streaming platform, we’re making sure your watch list features some of the brightest talents the culture has to offer.

Rebel Ridge – Netflix

A Black man who can handle himself is in a town with a gang of corrupt cops. What could go wrong? Considering Terry Richmond (portrayed by Aaron Pierre) is ready for the smoke when the boys in blue steal the bail money meant to spring his cousin, we want to see that action. The police chief Sandy Burnne (Don Johnson) are surely going to catch the proper fade(s). Of course there are comparisons to a colored man getting his Rambo on. That is not a bad thing. HBO’s Industry is finally back after a two-year hiatus, so there’s no better time to binge the first two before getting into the craziness of season three. The high-strung show follows a group of young graduates as they attempt to work their way up to a permanent position at Pierpoint & Co, one of the most highly regarded investment banks in London. The wannabe adults come from different social classes and attempt to make it in the cutthroat world of trading. Chock-full of backstabbing and shocking moments, even the very first episode ends with a bang due to a toxic work culture constantly swept under the rug.

Love Life – Tubi/Select Streaming Platforms

Love Life , a romantic comedy anthology series that made its debut in 2020, follows the romantic endeavors of Anna Kendrick as Darby Carter in the first season, which also stars Sasha Compère as Mallory Moore and Kingsley Ben-Adir as Grant. The show’s relatable themes of dating and trying to find long-lasting love in the big city give way to strong performances from the cast. In the somewhat related second season, William Jackson Harper stars as Marcus Watkins, and Jessica Williams stars as Mia Hines. Guest appearances from former NBA player Amar’e Stoudemire and Blair Underwood also round out the work from the cast. Keeping with the overarching theme of Black Watch , there are decidedly more Black characters in the second season but like the first season, there is a lot to pull from and both seasons end on strong notes. Sadly, the show was canceled by HBO Max and removed from the service but Love Life can be viewed for free on the Tubi network among other streaming outlets. — D.L. Chandler
