MGM+’s From returns for its highly anticipated third season on September 22! I was late to the party but managed to binge-watch the first two seasons over the summer. Harold Perrineau leads the cast as the sheriff of a mysterious town where, once you enter, there’s no escape. As if being trapped isn’t terrifying enough, deadly monsters emerge at night, forcing the townspeople to fight for their lives every day. With new arrivals constantly joining the town, the urgency to find a way out intensifies. The first two seasons were stellar, so we’re expecting more WTF moments and mystery.

How To Die Alone – Hulu

    Source: Hulu / hulu

How to Die Alone was created by and stars Natasha Rothwell of ( Insecure and The White Lotus ) fame. She plays, who is described in the show’s synopsis (their words) as “a broke, fat, Black JFK airport employee who’s never been in love and forgotten how to dream, until an accidental brush with death catapults her on a journey to finally take flight and start living by any means necessary.” Honestly, they had us at Natasha Rothwell, who brings hilarious levity to her role while the diverse cast of characters will have at least one person you can relate to. We’re not too sure about her scammer ways (no spoilers) but we are giving it a fair go. Peep it on Hulu.— Alvin aqua Blanco

The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power – Prime

    Source: Prime Video / Prime

The Lord of the Rings enjoys a devoted fanbase dating back far before the pair of trilogies produced by director Peter Jackson.  J. R. R. Tolkien’s The Lord of the Rings novel is a sprawling beast of a book which is why Jackson needed so much time to cover it all. For The Rings of Power , the slow walk is extended over the course of two seasons thus far, the second of which is still ongoing. The creators of the series, J. D. Payne and Patrick McKay, took their liberties in crafting the show which features diverse casting including Ismael Cruz Córdova, who plays the elf Arondir, and Sophia Nomvete in the role of Princess Disa of the Dwarf nation, just to name a couple. This, of course, has sparked backlash and hate from Tolkien fans who believe it ruined the source material. But, it’s storytelling and it’s the very best—and the race and ethnicity of people playing fictional characters onscreen shouldn’t matter. The first season is a little slow in the start but really heats up by the end. The second season is sizzling right now and it’s truly a visual spectacle for fantasy fans. D.L. Chandler
