After many federal investigations , which led to several of New York Mayor Adams’ top brass leaving his administration, the spotlight has finally turned on him.

On Wednesday evening, a federal grand jury officially indicted Adams. Though previously sealed, the 57-page indictment has been released to the public and shows that Adams is being charged with bribery, fraud, and solicitation.

One incident he’s being accused of is his relationship with Turkey, noting that he accepted illegal donations to his campaign, and in return, he pulled strings to ease regulations and pressured the New York Fire Department to let the country build a high-rise building near the United Nations.

It’s been a domino act since last year when his aide Brianna Suggs had her home raided by the feds and then seized Adams’ electronic devices. FBI then searched his director of Asian Affairs, Winnie Greco’s, apartment and then served Adams grand jury subpoenas amid a corruption investigation for illegal campaign donations from Turkey.

Paperwork says he took bribes from foreign donors and corporations and framed them as straw donors, meaning real sources of monetary donations were hidden and instead framed as someone else’s contributions.

Aside from his campaign, the indictment alleges that since 2016, he has also received over $100,000 in luxury travel upgrades to Istanbul, China, Ghana, and other countries through Turkey to ensure he flew in first class and stayed in the best hotels. None of this was publicly disclosed.

Then, earlier this month, his top officials routinely began to resign, including NYPD Commissioner Edward Caban, his City Hall Chief Counsel Lisa Zornberg—because Adams refused to take her advice—New York City Health Commissioner Ashwin Vasan, and New York City Schools Chancellor David Banks.

Calls for him to resign soon began because the drama hindered his ability to run the city effectively. The first loud call came from Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez .

He refused, releasing a statement that read in part, “For anyone who self-righteously claims people charged with serious crimes should not be in jail to now say that the second Black mayor of New York should resign because of rumors and innuendo — without even a single charge being filed — is the height of hypocrisy.”

As the indictment was unsealed, crowds began to form outside Gracie Mansion, waiting for him to address the allegations.

You can watch him address the allegations below.
