The Weeknd f. Playboi Carti — “Timeless”

Two of music’s biggest names, The Weeknd and Playboi Carti, link up for a “Timeless” collaboration. It’s the latest sign of things to come from Abel Tesfaye’s highly-anticipated forthcoming album, Hurry Up Tomorrow .

The track’s star-studded nature also continues beyond its main acts. In fact, Pharrell Williams, Mike Dean, Ojivolta, and Twisco all join forces on the production, crafting the soundscape for The Weeknd and Carti.

Playboi kicks things off with his signature sound in the opening verse. “I’m wrestlin’ all of my demons, I feel like The Rock,” he raps on the track. Next, Abel follows up with a Pharrell nod. “Feel like Skateboard P, BBC boys on the creep / Feel like it’s ’03 / Neptune drum with a beam.”

The Weeknd performed this track during his show in Brazil earlier this month. This marks the second Carti and Abel collaboration following 2023’s “Popular” with Madonna.

Daylyt f. J. Cole — “A Plate of Collard Greens”

Daylyt and J. Cole link up once again. After working together on the song “Pi,” the battle rap star and the Dreamville boss serve up “A Plate of Collard Greens.”

Daylyt kicks off the track with his dexterous wordplay and intricate rhyme schemes, but he also finds time to deliver a message in the process. “The sun bright out,” he raps. “Children, let it raise / If you hear this, keep your head up, praise.”

Shortly afterwards, Jermaine Cole chefs up the second verse with his own blend of complicated rhyme patterns and creative writing techniques. “Dangerous as the King of Pop, how well they spin your block / No moves, minimal, smooth criminals / The whole gang do an insane amount of lean.”

Day says he had this song in the tuck but was waiting for the right moment to unleash it. “We just had it in the hip, waiting,” he told The Company Man . “With all the stuff that’s going on in Hip-Hop, Hip-Hop looks like a crazy place right now…A lot of fans were starting to lose hope…Speaking with Cole and his team and my team, we was like, let’s save the game right now…Let’s remind them what Hip-Hop is supposed to sound like.”

Tee Grizzley f. J. Cole — “Blow for Blow”

The J. Cole feature train continues rolling. After collaborating with Daylyt, as seen above, Jermaine keeps the momentum going with a new Tee Grizzley joint, “Blow for Blow.”

First, Cole jumpstarts things with the opening verse, announcing that he is the greatest of all time thanks to a specific category. “Blow for blow, Cole flow just prestigious / Sweats and tees, no unnecessary accessories / The Goat just from features.”

Next, Tee Grizzley pops up for the second verse and a tip of his hat to Detroit. “Can’t be on the court and be a coach, it’ll take my game away / Catch you on that freeway, we reenacting Training Day / You hear me? Who ain’t rockin’ with me? / Tell ’em to start from zero then make it out of the D.”

Cole’s hook for the track may just sound reminiscent. That’s because part of it is inspired by Mase’s flow on “Mo’ Money Mo’ Problems.” In fact, Mason Betha is a songwriter listed in the credits as a result.

The song’s music video features both Cole and Grizzley rapping on a rooftop and in a stairwell. Glossy high-tech footage is also combined with grainy film footage to create a balanced visual for the dynamic duo.

Cole is also currently prepping for the release of his next project, The Fall Off . The Dreamville head teased the album with Might Delete Later, but the LP does not yet have a release date.

Lil Durk — “Turn Up a Notch”

Lil Durk reflects on the times he’s had to “Turn Up a Notch” with the release of his latest single. The new track comes with a music video that showcases some of the juxtapositions that he balances in life.

“Back in 2012, they counted me out; I had to turn up a notch,” he recalls on the track. “I’m thinkin’ you happy, but low-key you doubted me / I had to turn up a notch / Sleepin’ on porches, I served off the balcony / I had to turn up a notch.”

Durkio continues to share more war stories throughout the track. “Breakin’ news, the trenches a zoo / Just don’t move, get shot out your shoes / Tell on who? I don’t have a clue / Flew her out and she stayed in the room / Murder cases, I watch it from Zoom.”

Although Durk’s lyrics focus on the plight, the song’s music video showcases some of life’s prizes. It includes money counter scenes with hundred dollar bills, private jet flights, concert nights, and Maybach rides.

Durk also continues to “Turn Up a Notch” in other ways. He recently announced that his “background wiped and clean of all cases” and added “I ain’t a felon anymore. Who would have thought?” Next, the rising star prepares to guest star on Power: Ghost on Starz.
