On what would have been the fashion visionary’s 44th birthday, LVMH has sold Virgil Abloh ‘s Off-White LLC, the parent company of his Off-White brand.

Off-White’s new home will be with brand management company Bluestar Alliance, which also owns other brands such as Scotch & Soda, Bebe, English Laundry, Brookstone, and Hurley.

Financial details of the deal were not made available when the announcement was made, but Bluestar Alliance CEO Joey Gabbay said in a statement that the new owners plan to keep the integrity of the brand and further represent what it meant when Abloh created it in 2012 after the success of Pyrex Vision .

“Virgil was a creative pioneer who had a profound impact on the global fashion industry and creative community,” Gabbay said in a statement. “Acquiring Off-White represents a unique opportunity for Bluestar Alliance to honor and build upon the enduring legacy of Virgil Abloh. His visionary approach to fashion resonates deeply with our core values. Abloh’s ability to fuse street culture with high fashion has laid a powerful foundation that aligns with our vision of fostering innovation while embracing diversity.”

It was just in 2021 when LVMH acquired 60% of Off-White while Abloh retained 40% of the brand and remained the brand’s creative director. Three years prior, he was named Louis Vuitton’s artistic director, beginning with the 2018 menswear collection. After his death, the job was then given to Pharrell Williams.

Off-White has been begging for a fresh start, especially after recently presenting for the first time ever at New York Fashion Week. CEO Cristiano Fagnani wants the brand to return to its streetwear roots, collaborating with Nike again instead of the luxury brands that LVMH tried to position it with.

It is unclear how much Abloh’s estate will be involved in Off-White’s latest sale and future.
