Chris Brown ‘s history of alleged abuse and legal troubles will be the subject of a new documentary heading to Investigation Discovery.
The network already has one recent exposé under its belt in Quiet on Set , which delved into the horrors behind the child abuse endured for years by the minors who were part of Nickelodeon kids’ programming.
The documentary digging into Brown’s alleged wrongdoing will be entitled Chris Brown: A History of Violence and spearhead ID’s third-annual No Excuse for Abuse campaign, set to air on Oct. 27.
According to Variety , the documentary will follow Brown’s troubles beginning when the then-teenager beat up his ex-girlfriend Rihanna while the two were poised to have a momentous night at the Grammys. He eventually pled guilty to felony assault and was sentenced to five years of probation, but it just marked the beginning of his many legal run-ins.
He’d infamously get into a bottle-throwing incident with Drake in a Manhattan club, involved in a Los Angeles hit and run, was sued for assault by his former manager, ex-girlfriend Karrueche Tran was granted a five-year restraining order, and most recently is facing a lawsuit accusing him of “brutally and severely beat” four men while backstage at Dickies Arena after a performance.
The documentary’s trailer shows the time when America fell in love with the up-and-coming R&B star and how he strayed into the dark, beginning with the Rihanna assault.
“Chris Brown’s an amazing and talented musician, but let’s call a thing a thing. He’s an abuser of women. Consistently, unapologetically,” one woman can be heard narrating.
Also featured will be an alleged victim who’s never spoken out about her experience before, with her altered voice saying, “I have not spoken about this matter publicly, but that’s the only way he can be stopped.”
Given the theme of domestic abuse, after it premieres, The View ‘s Sunny Hostin will host a discussion alongside experts about violence between partners.
“Throughout my career, I have always prioritized being a fierce defender of women and children,” Hostin’s statement reads in part. “Domestic violence is a very close, personal issue to me as I reflect on my past as a prosecutor of these types of cases, and in my role as a mother and public figure whose actions inform and help shape the next generation.”
