Pharrell, LeBron James & More Stars Named As Co-Chairs For 2025 Met Gala Focused On Black Style

The Met Gala usually has artsy, off-the-wall themes that can be difficult for those not into fashion to resonate with, but in 2025, the Gala is switching things up.

Next year’s theme will be Superfine: Tailoring Black Style , with Vogue hoping partygoers will “take the Black dandy as its subject, examining the importance of clothing and style to the formation of Black identities in the Atlantic diaspora.”

Like every other year, the Met Gala directly reflects the Metropolitan Museum of Art Costume Institute’s Spring exhibition. This year, the theme is based on the 2009 book Slaves to Fashion: Black Dandyism and the Styling of Black Diasporic Identity written by Barnard Professor of Africana Studies Monica L. Miller. Delving into the book, Vogue notes the museum will “shed light on not just garments and accessories, but a range of media that includes drawings, paintings, photographs, and film excerpts.”

As for the Met Gala chairs, of course, there’s fashion media legend Anna Wintour . Before anyone could be outraged, the exhibit tapped a bevy of Black men who’ve made a name for themselves in their respective entertainment lanes and have a fashion sense all their own to be the other co-chairs.

Of course, there’s actor Colman Domingo , who always elevates any red carpet he steps on, the first Black Formula 1 driver, Lewis Hamilton , self-proclaimed fashion killa A$AP Rocky , and rapper/designer Pharrell , who is currently the head of menswear at Louis Vuitton .

Plus, they added more star power, naming this year’s honorary chair as a basketball legend, current Los Angeles Laker, and Met Gala first-timer LeBron James .

The list of attendees was finalized by Andrew Bolton, the Curator in Charge, who noted that all the guys involved have had a part in influencing menswear’s current wave.

“They’re all men who aren’t afraid to take risks with their self-presentation. They take advantage of classic forms, but they also remix them and break them down in really new ways,” Bolton told Vogue . “I think Black men and Black designers are very much at the forefront of this new renaissance in menswear.”
