CASTLE PINES, Colo. ( KDVR ) — A Castle Rock mother, who says her developmentally delayed son was physically abused at a nearby daycare, is fighting to keep the alleged abuser’s case public.

“Let the process work, ‘woo,’ and now, I feel the process is broken,” said Heather Leffew, the boy’s mother.

Leffew said she was notified by a Castle Pines daycare that back in December, her then-3-year-old son had been physically abused, twice in the same day.

A spokesperson for the 18th Judicial District Attorney’s Office told FOX31 that the individual’s final disposition charge was filed as child abuse and reckless bodily injury. It is considered a Class 1 misdemeanor.

A pre-trial conference is scheduled for July 19 with “possible discussions of a plea deal.”

Leffew plans to speak at that conference and argue against any sort of plea deal that allows the case to go away.

“Was my child seriously injured?” asks Leffew. “Thank God, no. But what might happen next time?”

Leffew was told the worker is no longer at the Castle Pines daycare. However, she was told that the suspect is now working elsewhere in childcare.
