The Homecraft True Value has been a staple in Castle Shannon for decades, but it’s now closed so owners can assess the damage following a large fire.

The fire started at the building along Library Road around 6:30 p.m. Wednesday.

A video sent to Channel 11 shows heavy fire and black smoke coming from the second floor.

A passerby saw the flames and drove to the fire department to report it, according to Castle Shannon Fire Chief Bill Reffner.

The family-owned store, known for its concrete statues on display in front, was closed at the time.

The statues were not damaged. Neither were the contractor supplies outside.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
