THEATER REVIEW: ‘The Comedy of Errors’ plays at Shakespeare & Company through August 18
This is my favorite Shakespeare comedy; it always has been. I suspect it always will be, and no matter how many times I have seen it, I always crave one more. For this outing in Shakespeare & Company’s outdoor arena theater, The Arthur S. Waldstein, they have chosen a wild, athletic, Vaudeville-style romp. This was an excellent choice for the visual humor and verbal wit that hides the play’s principal plot flaw: mistaken identity. Antipholus of Syracuse is roaming the known world seeking his twin brother, accompanied by his indentured servant and friend Dromio of Syracuse. They have come to Ephesus, where Syracusans are executed for existing, and they are immediately assailed as friends, husbands, and lovers. For some unexplainable reason, this confuses them rather than signaling that their twins must exist in this town. Thank you, Plautus.

Upstate Beat: Sheila E. demonstrates why you shouldn’t sleep on the rain location
When a summer outdoor concert series in the Capital Region moves to the rain location, it’s usually a bit of a disappointment. There’s no substitute for the joy of seeing music out in the fresh air, ideally with sunshine boosting the moods of fans in attendance. And the designated rain locations, such as under the I-787 bridge in Albany for Alive at Five rain-outs, just can’t compete. They’re meant for utility and not vibe or sound.
“Horses blink”: An equestrian sports journalist unwinds memories of 35-millimeter film
L.A. Berry, a writer based in Albany, New York, said she got into equestrian sports journalism because she “had no choice.”. She remembers setting up mock horse races around her bed as an 8- or 9-year-old and interviewing the winners on a reel-to-reel tape recorder. “I have just kept doing what I loved doing as a kid,” she said.
