Hawthorne Street fire in Schenectady displaces 11
SCHENECTADY — A fire on Hawthorne Street displaced 11 residents on Tuesday afternoon, with Red Cross volunteers assisting two adults and nine children at the scene. Schenectady Fire Chief Donald Mareno said the small fire at 1433 Hawthorne St. was extinguished within 10 minutes — contained to its area of origin. There were no injuries reported as a result of the fire. Mareno said the department is still investigating the fire.
SNAPSHOT: Hyundai Hope on Wheels Presents Albany Med’s Melodies Center with $100,000 Impact Award
The Melodies Center for Childhood Cancer and Blood Disorders at Albany Medical Center was recently awarded a $100,000 Impact Award from Hyundai Hope on Wheels. The grant benefits the center’s Survivorship Program which supports families and patients after they finish cancer treatment. The Melodies Center invited cancer survivors to paint their hands and press their handprints on a vehicle and Dr. Jessica Geaney’s white coat, to commemorate the event and the children’s brave battles with cancer. Pittsfield Housing Trust Digs into ARPA Proposals
PITTSFIELD, Mass. — The Affordable Housing Trust has stepped toward allocating its $500,000 in American Rescue Plan Act funding. Last week, the trust reviewed five letters of intent for housing projects in the city and will ask the parties to submit a full application. ARPA funds must be allocated by December 2026 and applications will be handled on a rolling basis as they come in.
