The first Black professional baseball team in the Schenectady area was created in 1913 by Bill Wernicke. A marker placed where Island Park Stadium once stood recalls a game where the star Giants pitcher Frank Wickware "outdueled" the great Walter Johnson of the Washington Senators.

STORRS, Conn. - The UConn Women's Lacrosse team announced their captains for the 2024-2025 year on Thursday, July 25th. The captains are graduate student attacker #31 Eliza Bowman, and senior defender #4 Riley Daly. #31 Eliza Bowman Bowman appeared in all 18 games for the Huskies in 2024, scoring 28 goals overall. Bowman notched consecutive 4-goal performances against Xavier on 4/6, and Albany on 4/13. Prior to transferring to UConn, the Darien, Conn. native played two seasons at Johns Hopkins University. New York Man Found Dead in Central Illinois After Extensive Search
Peoria County, IL – A missing 77-year-old man from New York was found dead in Peoria County, Illinois, following an extensive search involving multiple agencies. John F. Dubaic, a resident of Green Island, New York, was reported missing by family members after leaving in his RV on July 13. The last contact with Dubaic occurred on July 15. On Tuesday, New York investigators provided the Peoria County Sheriff’s Office with a GPS location indicating where Dubaic’s RV had been on Cedar Bluff Road near Elmore in Peoria County.
