2 people sentenced for embezzlement
SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) — A Sioux Falls man and woman were sentenced for embezzlement and theft from an Indian Tribal organization on Monday. According to a news release from the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of South Dakota, 46-year-old April Ferguson was sentenced to five months in federal prison and an additional five months of home confinement, followed by two years of supervised release, restitution of $36,077 for the Ideal Lakota Community, and ordered to pay a $100 special assessment to the Federal Crime Victims Fund.

Commissioners Choose to Let ATV and Dirt Bike Ordinance Die
Madison will, for now, not pursue an ordinance regulating ATV and dirt bike use in the city. The City Commission approved a First Reading of the ordinance at their last meeting in June. It came about after complaints were made to police about their use at at least one residence in town. At the time, commissioners said they wanted to receive more public comment before giving the ordinance final approval.

Convicted domestic abuser sentenced to 15 years for aggravated assault
RAPID CITY, S.D. - Brent Silk, aged 34, received a 15-year prison sentence for aggravated assault (domestic violence) following a jury conviction in May. This marks Silk's sixth felony conviction. Despite his eligibility for a life sentence due to his violent criminal record, Seventh Circuit Court Judge Josh Hendrickson opted for the 15-year term, citing that the victim's injuries did not result in permanent harm as the mitigating factor.
