Nitty Gritty Dirt Band hangs it up
It’s understandable why fans are skeptical of swan song tours. Kiss and Mötley Crüe are examples of bands who claimed to embark on final tours but returned to the road. The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band — which performs Sunday, Aug. 18, at the Fox Tucson Theatre — has said it is on its last tour. It sounds like it really is the fans’ final chance to catch the venerable country-rock band.

PHOENIX — It was almost impossible for Jay William Cook II to drive when he came home to Arizona after serving in the U.S. Army following 9/11. “I was constantly like hyper-vigilant to an insane degree. I'd turn off the road if an orange cone had moved, because over there construction sites, they would steal some of that stuff and use them for bomb markers. Bomb markers. So - I couldn't trust anything,” Cook said.

2024 Arizona football season countdown: 17 days to kickoff
A LOOK BACK — NO. 17 RICHARD DICE. With it being the 17th day until kickoff between the Lobos and Wildcats, the best player to wear No. 17 for Arizona is wide receiver Richard Dice, a tough-guy standout with Arizona from 1993-96. He is known for gutting out difficult injuries and still making it to the playing field. Dice had great leaping ability and is best remembered for not only playing, but playing well, with a torn ACL in a 1995 victory at ASU. He had 112 receptions for 1,892 yards with 17 touchdowns in his four-year career at a time when Arizona was not known for a passing offense. Dice, who turned 50 this year, lives in Santa Clarita, Calif. He has a background of working with Independent Concrete Cutting Co. in southern California, fittingly mostly with demolition.
