100-degree highs? Hickory, Catawba Valley brace for hot days ahead
Portions of the Interstate 40 corridor could flirt with the 100-degree mark over the next five days. Mid-to-late July is the climatological peak for average high temperatures during the summer season in the North Carolina foothills and western piedmont, and on cue the region is going to likely see its highest temperatures so far in 2024.
Vale Man Faces Charges from Cleveland & Gaston Counties
44-year-old Barry Lee Cline of Lanes Road in Vale has been arrested by Catawba County Sheriff’s Officers on one felony count of breaking & entering and misdemeanor counts of larceny, possession of drug paraphernalia, and simple possession of a schedule IV controlled substance. The B&E and paraphernalia charges are from Cleveland County and the larceny charge is from Gaston County. The charges date back to 2021 and 2022.
Catawba County Man Arrested Following Reported Standoff With Police
30-year-old Ian Maurice McMahon of Conover was arrested Friday (July 12) by Catawba County Sheriff’s Officers. He’s charged with three counts of possession of a firearm by a felon, two counts of felony probation violation along with single counts of trafficking, opium or heroin, traffic in methamphetamine, possession of meth and two counts of possession of drug paraphernalia.

Burke County Man Charged With Vehicle Theft Counts In Catawba County
34-year-old Andrew David Hughes of Raintree Street in Connelly Springs was arrested Tuesday (July 9) by Hickory Police Officers. He’s charged with felony counts of larceny of a motor vehicle and possession of a stolen motor vehicle. Hughes was jailed in the Catawba County Detention Facility under $20,000 bond. A District Court date was scheduled today (July 11).
Lawndale Woman Jailed In Catawba County On Felony Charge
29-year old Bridget Abagail Heafner of Lawndale was arrested Wednesday (July 10) by Probation & Parole Officers. She’s charged with felony probation violation. Following the arrest, Heafner was jailed in the Catawba County Detention Facility under $7,500 bond. A Superior Court date is set for August 22.
