Worker critically injured after falling out of tree on property near Valley Center
SEDGWICK COUNTY, Kan. (KWCH) - A man working for a professional service on a property west of Valley Center suffered critical injuries after falling out of a tree. This happened after 5 p.m. Friday in the 8000 block of North 63rd Street West, near 77th Street North and Ridge Road.
Broncos fall to No. 3 Hutchinson in season opener
On Thursday evening, the Broncos opened the 2024 season in Kansas, stumbling to No. 3 Hutchinson Community College 42-10 at Gowans Stadium. After a quick three and out from the Broncos offense, the defense grabbed their first turnover of the Oliver Soukup era on the second defensive play after linebacker Damon Mayberry forced a fumble and Rayden Aphayvong was quick to fall on the ball, giving possession back to the Bronco offense. After back-to-back punts by NMMI, Hutchinson opened the scoring with 7:29 on the clock off a 26-yard run by Waymond Jordan Jr. After another quick offensive possession by NMMI, Hutchinson took the 14-0 lead behind a 68-yard touchdown connection from Samari Collier to Ja'Cory Thomas. In their next possession, the Broncos turned the ball over, giving Hutchinson the ball on the NMMI 25 yardline. Two plays later, the Blue Dragons made it a three possession game with a touchdown pass from Collier to Derrick Sally Jr.
Northern Heights transitioning to 8-Man football for 2024
The 2024 season for Northern Heights will be a new one in two different capacities. In September of 2023, the USD 251 North Lyon County Board of Education voted unanimously to move Northern Heights from 11-man to 8-man in football. During that same meeting, board members also voted unanimously for Northern Heights to depart the Flint Hills League and enter the Lyon County League. Northern Heights’ addition to the Lyon County League came as Southern Coffey County departed the league after the 2023-24 academic year and joined the Twin Rivers League in Southeast Kansas.
Manhattan road construction reminders ahead of Saturday's football game
MANHATTAN, Kan. (WIBW) - The City of Manhattan has a few announcements/reminders about road construction ahead of Saturday’s season-opening Kansas State football game. Kimball Avenue construction was completed on Monday. The road is open to traffic at the Denison Avenue intersection, however, left turns in the lane are still closed. This is due to shipping delays related to the traffic signals.
