Coachella Valley Repertory has announced its 2024-25 season with five fresh productions making their way to the downtown Cathedral City theater.

This upcoming season marks the professional regional theater's 16th year bringing plays and musicals to the desert, and the lineup will showcase five award-winning shows that are all making their CV Rep premiere: “Next to Normal,” “The 39 Steps,” “The Light in the Plaza,” “Jesus Christ Superstar,” and “Other Desert Cities.”

“This is a crowd-pleaser season start to finish,” CV Rep Executive Artistic Director Adam Karsten said via press release. “These plays and musicals are brilliant achievements, worthy of every accolade and award they have received. If there is a season that has something for everyone, this is it.”

New subscriptions, renewals, and single ticket purchases are available now. You can purchase at www.cvrep.org, by calling (760) 296-2966, or at the CVRep box office located at 68510 E. Palm Canyon Drive, Cathedral City. Summer box office hours are Wednesdays and Thursdays from 10:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. and one hour prior to performances. Patrons requesting accessibility assistance are encouraged to speak to a ticket representative while purchasing their season subscriptions.

    Dates: Nov. 6-24

Book and lyrics by Brian Yorkey, music by Tom Kitt

Pulitzer Prize winner “Next to Normal” is a powerful, tragic drama about a mother’s struggle with mental health issues, the impact it has on her and her family, and how they come together despite it.

    'The 39 Steps'

    Dates: Dec. 11-22

By Patrick Barlowe, based on the novel by John Buchan and the 1935 film by Alfred Hitchcock

“The 39 Steps,” a comedic adaptation of Hitchhock’s famous thriller, is full of twists, turns and laughs to keep you at the edge of your seat. The show explores what happens when an average civilian is roped into a network of British spies, with “more than 150 madcap characters” played by a cast of just four.

    'The Light in the Piazza'

    Dates: Jan. 22-Feb. 9, 2025

Book by Craig Lucas, music and lyrics by Adam Guettel

Adam Guttel, who wrote the music and lyrics for “The Light in the Piazza,” has won Tony Awards for Best Winning Score and Orchestration for his work. The music accompanies a heartfelt story, where a vacation to Florence tests the relationship between a mother and her disabled daughter.

    'Jesus Christ Superstar'

Dates: March 5-23, 2025 (Press performances held on March 5, opening night is March 6)

Music by Andrew Lloyd Webber, lyrics by Tim Rice

“Jesus Christ Superstar” brings Jesus Christ and his final days to life through the evocative power of rock and drama. According to a press release, CVRep will present the award-winning musical in a new “semi-immersive” format.

    'Other Desert Cities'

    Dates: April 16-27, 2025

    By Jon Robin Baitz

“Other Desert Cities” is unique in CV Rep’s season lineup, because it's set right here in the Coachella Valley. A serious family secret threatens to tear a young woman and her parents apart in this Pulitzer Prize-nominated play.

Note: The season’s world premiere production, selected from more than 300 submissions to the Origins New Works Program, will be announced at a later date, with single tickets going on sale at that time.
