On June 26, Cathedral City passed a resolution to begin the process of selling Festival Lawn located in the city's downtown.

According to the city manager's office, the end of the state's redevelopment plan in 2012 caused them to designate certain unused property as surplus land. One of the parcels listed was the, now, Festival Lawn. The city has issued notices of availability to entities involved in affordable housing development.

Some residents have started a petition to save it, saying it's an integral part of the community as it provides needed green space and hosts significant events like the Annual Hot Air Balloon Festival and Taste of Jalisco.

Some residents are calling for a town hall meeting so the city can hear their concerns.

Stay tuned for News Channel 3 at 4, 5 pm to hear from a concerned resident and city official.
