Five cool cats for a hot August

    2024-08-02

We're in the heart of the dog days of summer, but we don't need to be. Flip the switch by bringing home one of these great kitties and make them the cat days of summer. All of these guys and gals are available to adopt right now from local Kansas City animal shelters. Just click on their individual links.

Have you adopted a cat from reading these pages? Let us know in the comment section below. I'd love to hear about it!

    Nimbus

First up is a very special cat, Nimbus, named after the dark cloud. He was found on a good samaritan's front porch limping and bleeding, his bone exposed on his tail, and an eye full of discharge. Even in this sad state, he greeted the family whose home he lucked upon with love, purring and rubbing on them as if nothing were wrong at all. No one is sure what happened to poor Nimbus, whether he was hit by a car or attacked by an animal, but he made it out alive, complete with scars and a partially amputed tail to show for it.

Now, he's hanging out at the Friends of Parkville Animal Shelter waiting for you, yes you, to give him a comfortable, safe home. The little guy also has IBS, so he'll need to be on a special food for the rest of his life. He's a real sweetheart though, and if you have the love in your heart and a little financial fortitude (to pay for his food), Nimbus would be thrilled if you could offer him blue skies from now on.

You can fill out The Friends of Parkville Animal Shelter's pre-adoption application here. You can also see a cute video of him playing on his petfinder page.

    Vivian

Next up is Vivian, a dark gray beauty from Great Plains SPCA. Vivian was in a foster home quite a while before transitioning into the shelter. Now, a little tired of moving place to place, she's looking for a permanent home. She's a talkative cat who loves nothing more than to simply sit by your side and take in the occasional pet. Although she does like toys, most of the time she'd just prefer to lazy around the house. For a lot of people, me included, a lazy cat is an ideal cat. If it is for you too, Vivian might be the one for you.

One thing to note though, she does require a daily medication, but she is good about taking it (so long as you reward her with a little wet food afterward).

You can learn more about Vivian here.

    Tommy Triton

Tommy Triton, from Meowy Matchmakers, is a little more active than lazy Vivian and is known around Meowy Matchmakers as quite the comedian. He's an entertaining guy and gets along well despite only having three legs. That's likely where the "Triton" comes from. The original Triton was from Greek mythology, a merman and the son of Poseidan. This Triton, Tommy, is from Fairway, Kansas. It is probably a safe bet that his parents were not Greek gods.

Tommy Triton is a funny, sweet kitty who gets along great with kids and with other cats too. This three-legged charmer would be great in just about any home. You can learn more about him here.

    Flurry

Flurry, from Cats Pawjamas, was featured here about six months ago and is probably past the really wild kitten phase by now. The older a cat is, the harder that cat is to adopt, so I thought I'd feature him here again in the hopes he won't spend too much of his young life in foster care. Cross your fingers that Flurry will be adopted in a hurry.

Flurry, like his name suggests, is a bundle of energy, likely outpacing our three-legged wonder Tommy Triton. He's grown up around other cats and dogs and would do fine with both given a proper introduction. You can learn more about Flurry here.

    Cookies and Cream

How adorable is Cookies and Cream? Known as CC for short, this girl, from The Animal Rescue Alliance, was found as a kitten roaming the streets. She's about five months old and is chock full of energy. Once she's done romping around the house, you'll get to meet the Cookies and Cream in the photo, a snuggly little cutie who will charm you with her powerful purr.

CC would be happiest in a home with other cats, especially youngsters like her. If you don't have cats already, you could always adopt Flurry too or The Animal Rescue Alliance will gladly hook you up with the perfect pair. You can learn more about Cookies and Cream here.

That's all for this week. Want to look at more cats? Check out my profile here. Many of the cats featured on past posts are still available!
