Walmart has come under fire from a disgruntled shopper over its self-checkout limit and staff behavior at its Catskill, New York location.

The customer claimed employees were "rude" and complained about the 15-item limit.

The angry shopper wrote, "@Walmart what the heck is going on in your Catskill store.

"All self-checkouts are 15 items or less and the rudeness of your employees checking how many items you have.

"You have two registers open for all other checkouts. Tell us how you don't care about your customers."

Walmart responded to the customer and invited them to message the retail giant privately.

"Your shopping experience is our top priority. Please join us in a DM at your convenience."

At this time, it is unclear if Walmart and the shopper discussed the matter further.

    RAGEFUL REVIEWS

Other customers have raged over their experience at the Catskill Walmart, which is located about three hours from New York City.

In July 2023, a customer gave the store a one-star Yelp review, claiming he was nearly overcharged by $51, and urged other shoppers to check their receipts.

"Rang two items twice for an extra $51 and I am lucky I caught it because the bill seemed excessive for the 12 or so items I purchased," he wrote.

"I don't usually check because I trusted the company to train honest workers...when I pointed out the employee's error, he smirked and told me to go to customer service for the refunds. Not cool."

In December 2023, another customer left a one-star review and fumed over the store's auto center.

"The auto center butchered my wheels and refused to give me my tires until I paid $77.76....

What is Walmart's Scan and Go?

Walmart's Scan and Go was made to save time for shoppers

Walmart's Scan and Go system was created to help customers scan items as they shop, pay, and leave without waiting in long checkout lines.

The retailer describes the new system to be done in a few easy steps:

    • Customers first need to have the Walmart app downloaded on their phones with their location access enabled.
    • On the Store Mode landing page, shoppers must click the Scan and Go option.
    • Customers can scan each item and place them in their carts as they shop.
    • At the end, they'll be prompted to view the cart to make sure the quantity on the app matches the ones in their carts.
    • Shoppers will press "Check Out" and head to a self-checkout kiosk.
    • They'll be prompted to scan the provided QR code at the register and confirm their payment method.
    • Once the transaction is complete, shoppers can leave the store without worry.

"The response I got was 'if you want to do something about it you can talk to the head tech, he's here tomorrow 7-4.'"

In May 2022, the Catskill Walmart store received another poor review from a shopper who complained about the lack of cashiers.

"One cashier to check customers out, people call [the] store [and] make yourself heard!!!" the customer wrote.

"I told the person if another cashier doesn't open up I would leave my cart and walk out."

Many other Walmart shoppers have grown frustrated with the retailer's self-checkout system.

In August 2024, a customer fumed after being forced to use the self-checkout kiosks and also complained about the store's bags.

The shopper responded to an X post that read, "I have a dream... that one day I will wake up and scroll through the news and not utter F once. Pray for me."

"I try to get through the store self-checkout without cursing. Frys I can do sometimes," the angry customer wrote.

"Walmart's bags stick together, and I end up tossing a few of the f**kers on the floor trying to find one that will open while cursing somewhat under my breath."

Another shopper raged over the retail giant's lengthy self-checkout lines and lack of cashiers.

"Walmart is complete garbage...no cashiers and 30 ppl in line for self-checkout...this place is worthless..." the shopper wrote in a February Facebook post.
