Dakin Humane Society shared the story of lost Texas cat Shoto, who reunited with his family two years after going missing. The shelter talked about Shoto’s “secret adventure” of escaping from his family’s home in Texas and a Good Samaritan dropping him in Dakin’s Massachussets area. While the shelter and the family were unaware of Shoto’s whereabouts for those two years, the reunion has brought much elation to the family.

Check out to see Shoto’s heartwarming lost-and-found journey from Massachusetts back to Texas below.

On Monday, September 2, Dakin Humane Society updated their followers on Facebook about the cat’s journey. Over two years ago, Karla and her family in Texas lost their precious pet Shoto, who escaped out of the house and “disappeared during an especially severe January cold snap.” The shelter noted that Shoto was the family’s first cat. Despite trying their best, the family failed to catch a hold of Shoto.

The shelter recalled an experience where they had to rescue a cat. They said, “Dakin staff members were left in disbelief when a Good Samaritan brought in a skinny stray cat who needed help. The microchip scanner chirped when it hovered over Shoto’s microchip.”

Dakin Humane Society recalled how Karla picked up their call. Initially, the family member almost avoided the call, thinking it was from a telemarketer or a spam call. Eventually, the two got in touch. The shelter added, “Without missing a beat, Karla made plans to drive to Dakin to pick up Shoto, a 26-hour-each-way journey from Texas!”

In the post, the society also wondered what Shoto would’ve experienced in his 2000-mile journey. They said, “No one except for Shoto will ever know how he got to Massachusetts, what he experienced, or who he met along the way. That adventure will forever remain his secret.”

The shelter credited the microchip that reunited Shoto with his family in Texas.
