Councilor Flynn Calls for the Establishment of a Blue Ribbon Commission on Downtown Office Vacancies
BOSTON – Boston City Councilor Ed Flynn has filed a resolution this week calling for the establishment of a Blue Ribbon Commission – made up of business leaders, city and state officials, and relevant experts – to study and make recommendations regarding the issue of office vacancies in Downtown. This follows a hearing that was held last year by Councilor Flynn on bringing back all City of Boston Board meetings in-person, with a hybrid option for the public, in an effort to both bring much-needed foot traffic and economic activity downtown, and improve community engagement.

Vesta Condominiums and Bell’s Market Are Coming (Back!) to Southie in 2024!
For those unfamiliar with Bell’s Market, the grocery store has been a staple in South Boston since the early 1900s. The current Bell’s Market owner, George Khoury, filed plans with the BPDA to demolish the existing Bell’s Market site and build a mixed-use building with ground-floor retail space and 32 condominiums. George ultimately decided to sell the development opportunity to Eric Doroski and Nitzan Mokady’s Zanzibar Capital, which closed on the property in 2023.

Woman arrested for robbing bank in Southie, thanks to a brave bystander.
On Wednesday, February 28, 2024, around 11:18 AM, officers from District C-6 (South Boston) apprehended Miriam Dealmeida, 38, of Boston, following an unarmed bank robbery. Responding to a bank alarm at 501 Southampton St, bank staff informed officers that a robbery had just occurred. The suspect, described as a white female, approximately 5′ tall, wearing a thin black hoodie with the hood covering her head, blue jeans, and a white disposable surgical mask, fled in an unknown direction. Broadcasting the suspect’s description, officers scoured the area, and a courageous bystander flagged them down on Father Songin Way, where he was restraining a woman matching the suspect’s description.
