City of Boston Declares a Heat Emergency From June 18th – June 20th
Mayor Michelle Wu has declared a heat emergency in the City of Boston beginning June 18, 2024 through June 20, 2024. Temperatures are expected to be in the mid 90’s with a feels like temperature of up to a 100 degrees. Cooling centers will be open at Boston Centers for Youth & Families (BCYF) community centers Tuesday through Thursday, 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. A full list of centers, other available resources, and heat safety tips can be found online at boston.gov/heat.

18-year-old girl shot after high school graduation in the Seaport District on Thursday.
An 18-year-old who had just left her high school graduation from Boston Collaborative High School was shot in the chest on Thursday. According to NBC 10 Boston, the teen is expected to survive. The location of the shooting was at 200 Pier 4 Boulevard around 11:43 a.m., near the Institute of Contemporary Art, where the graduation had taken place.
BPD + State Police on scene in Seaport for a reported shooting

On Monday, Mayor Michelle Wu vetoed cuts to police and fire budgets less than a week after Boston City Councilors voted 10-3 to make $15 million of changes to Wu’s $4.6 billion proposed city budget, including redistributing nearly $4 million away from police and fire. But the police and fire budgets have been restored thanks to the vetoes, which caused some city councilors, including City Council President Ruthzee Louijeune, to be very annoyed and frustrated.
