Ain’t no party like a neighborhood block party – City of Boston announces applications for block party grants
BOSTON- Monday, May 6, 2024 – Today, Mayor Michelle Wu and the Community Engagement Cabinet’s Office of Civic Organizing announced applications are now open for the second year of block party grants. This funding effort is to encourage residents to connect with their neighbors and experience the joy of building a stronger community. Residents and community groups who apply for the mini-grants can receive up to $750 to purchase food, party supplies, lawn games, and other items for summer block parties to make it easier and more affordable for neighborhoods to hold community gatherings.

Boston Bonanza – a charity fishing tournament to benefit Elevate Youth
Calling all Fishermen! Join Boston Bonanza for a charity fishing tournament from May 24th to June 14th featuring prizes for the Best in Class Fish and Most Species Caught. The registration fee is $65 and you will receive an exclusive Captain’s Bag that includes the official measuring tape, a long sleeve fishing shirt, stickers, as well as gear from brands like Costa, Cheeky, Badfish and Postfly. The Captain’s Bag can be picked up at The Kick-Off Party on May 22nd at The Dorchester Yacht Club!
Sports-a-Palooza: The Bruins + the Celtics head to Round 2
Both the Bruins and the Celtics are both in round 2 of the playoffs, which makes for a very exciting week of sports watching! Pay it Forward: Kickoff 4 Kids
“Pay it forward” is the motto of Kickoff 4 Kids, a Southie-based nonprofit that aims to give back to the community and help children in need. Founded in 2017, the organization hosts a myriad of flag football events throughout the year, including the annual Women’s Tournament and—most recently—the “Friday Night Lights” youth football league. Together, the organization’s efforts have raised over $100,000 for the community.

DCR Traffic Advisory: Morrissey Boulevard Lane Closure May 2nd – June 7th
Beginning on Thursday, May 2, 2024, and continuing through Friday, June 7, 2024, the Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR) will close lanes along Morrissey Boulevard (outbound) from Mt Vernon Street to Bianculli Boulevard in the Dorchester neighborhood from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. to accommodate sidewalk and curbing repair work.
