5 Things You Should Know This Week – July 15th
On the Dot® will be hosting biweekly Thursday Movie Nights on The LOT! Head on over to 383 Dot Ave. this Thursday, July 18th, to watch Up! Entry is free and you can purchase drinks and snacks to enjoy with the movie. Doors will open at 7PM for games and face painting before the showing that begins at 8:30PM. Limited chairs are available, be sure to bring your own or arrive early! Buckle Up – The Red Line Weekend Shutdowns in July
The MBTA announced the Red Line shutdown taking place weekends of July 13 – 14 and July 27 – 28. Also, Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts (“Blue Cross”) is providing Bluebikes unlock codes to provide people with an alternative method of transportation during the MBTA Red Line closure. The unlocks are available to non-members of Bluebikes and can be redeemed for both traditional pedal bikes and innovative e-bikes (per-minute fees apply). The unlocks are available for use only during the closure and while supplies last. You can get the details here.
Boston Harbor Now Releases “Harborwalk 2.0” Toolkit to Promote Accessible, Resilient Waterfront Design
BOSTON – Boston Harbor Now today released Visualizing Harborwalk 2.0, a toolkit for designing a more resilient and equitable waterfront for Greater Boston. Intended for municipal planners, developers, and resident activists, the guide includes core principles and visual examples that will serve as a compass for Boston Harbor Now advocacy around future waterfront development along the Harborwalk.

New Indoor Golf Experience Opening in the Neighborhood
Looks like Southie is getting a new indoor golf spot! Five Iron Golf is hoping to open in Fort Point on Summer Street. According to our friends at Boston Restaurant Talk, a notice on the City of Boston licensing board hearing page stated that the proposed spot would have six golf simulators on the lower level with seating areas, a bar, a kitchen, and two duckpin bowling lanes. There will also be a room on the first floor with seven additional golf simulators, seating areas, and a bar, plus a seasonal outdoor patio.
Stay Cool – City of Boston Issues a Heat Advisory Through Friday
BOSTON – Tuesday, July 9, 2024 – Mayor Michelle Wu today announced a heat advisory for the City of Boston beginning today, July 9 through Friday, July 12, due to the upcoming weather forecasts. High temperatures will reach into the high 80s, with the heat index expected to reach the 90s. The current City of Boston heat advisory threshold is 3 days or more of 90 degrees heat index, sustained for 2 or more hours per day.

Exploring Castle Island – A guided walking tour
Please join Mike Manning of the Friends of the Boston Harborwalk (FBHW) on a special evening guided walking tour of Fort Independence at Castle Island. This tour will focus on the history of Castle Island from the first fort (1634) to the present-day fort (1830s). You will walk the perimeter of the fort and discuss Edgar Allen Poe, the Quasi-War, the Spanish-American War, and the fort’s present-day recreational use. In addition, there will be talk about the inner harbor islands, the massive Boston harbor clean-up, Logan International Airport, and the Conley container terminal. The fun takes place on Thursday from 6pm-8pm.
