County's reasons for flag, seal opposition falls flat
Earlier this year, Minnesotans engaged in heated discussion over a redesign of the state flag and seal, eventually enticing a number of counties and municipalities to formally oppose the redesign. Rice County was among them, citing in its resolution the “substantial public costs” that would come with replacing the many state seals on uniforms and squad cars of the Rice County Sheriff’s Office, and any other changes that might be needed. But that reasoning appears to have been overblown. ...

Flooding rain hits west Fargo and what are air mass thunderstorms?
Air mass thunderstorms can often produce locally heavy rainfall over a short period of time. Why? Typically, winds aloft and at the surface are very light. These thunderstorms will “bubble” up during peak heating of the day then with little to no winds aloft to “steer” them along, they park over one general area and rain themselves out before additional ones will “bubble” up and provide more heavy rain over a different area.
Plan For More Wildfire Hazy Through The Week
Fires continue to burn sending wildfire haze across the United States. Monday, July 22 2024 was the first day in Fargo to see thicker surface haze to reduce visibility through the later afternoon and evening. Unfortunately, there are a few more days where surface layer haze will be affecting visibility and air quality across the region. Frankly, fires are not expected to stop anytime soon and haze is likely to funnel across the US through this week and likely the next couple of weeks. Towards the end of this week southerly winds will try to help push some of the smoke out of the area but more is likely to fill back in from fires on the West Coast of the US and the Pacific Northwest.
