The Enactment of Her 2022 Bill, AB 137, Has Made Both Material and Symbolic Reparations for Survivors and Past Victims Possible. July 4, 2024 - Sacramento, CA – Assemblywoman Wendy Carrillo (AD-52, Los Angeles) dedicated a commemorative plaque honoring the survivors and past victims of forced or involuntary sterilization made possible by her legislation. Signed into law in 2022, AB 137, included reparations payments, as well as the creation and public display of plaques acknowledging and apologizing for sterilizations at government institutions. The Assemblywoman joined representatives from the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR) at a private and solemn ribbon-cutting ceremony, held at the California Institution for Women state prison, in Chino, California.

– As he was finishing tacking up his horse in preparation to navigate the cross- country course at the 2024 Twin Rivers Summer Horse Trials, James Alliston expressed concern about navigating the 101 Freeway. That’s because as soon as he crossed the finish line aboard Intermediate level winner Addyson (Ampere x Nickerbocker) at 10:38 a.m. on Saturday—his fifth cross-country round of the morning with three at Preliminary and two at Intermediate—the West Coast-based five-star rider had to drive 185 miles on the 101 Freeway from Twin Rivers Ranch in Paso Robles, to San Francisco International Airport to catch a 4:35 p.m. flight to Frankfurt, Germany. “One thing at a time,” Alliston said.

SACRAMENTO — A group of pro-Palestinian demonstrators disrupted a session in the California Assembly chamber Wednesday evening.It happened at around 7 p.m. Assembly members took a recess when this occurred and when lawmakers returned to the chamber, the protest continued.Despite the session being disrupted, the session was able to continue until it was adjourned.Video taken inside the capitol shows demonstrators on a second-floor balcony chanting "Free, free Palestine." BBanners held over the balcony read "California #1 state sponsor of genocide" and "Rafah tent massacre," which points to the dozens of Palestinians, including displaced people living in tents, who were killed in an Israeli airstrike in May.On Tuesday, CBS News reported that at least nine people were killed by an overnight Israeli strike in Khan Younis after Palestinians were ordered by the Israeli army to flee the southern Gaza city.In mid-June, the Israeli military said it experienced the deadliest attack on its forces in months when eight soldiers were killed in an explosion in southern Gaza.The conflict in Gaza has been ongoing since October 2023.Security guards at the California Capitol in Sacramento escorted the demonstrators out after the session had ended. No arrests were announced.
