Multiple agencies fight Genoa fire
GENOA, NY (CortacaToday) – One barn at a Cayuga County farm is a total loss after a fire. The Genoa Volunteer Fire Department responded to the blaze on McAllister Road in Genoa just after 6 a.m. on Sunday. Arriving units found a livestock barn engulfed in flames and began evacuating the cattle inside while requesting aid from multiple agencies. Firefighters contained the flames to the building of origin.
Wegmans dominates list of biggest lottery retailers in Central NY. Search dealers statewide
Syracuse, N.Y. — Eight of the top 25 lottery retailers in Central New York in 2023 were Wegmans stores, according to the New York State Gaming Commission. That was the most of any chain in a five-county region of Central New York including Cayuga, Cortland, Madison, Onondaga and Oswego counties.

Cayuga Nation orders operator to relinquish Montezuma smoke shop
After years of litigation, the Cayuga Nation has ordered the operator of a Montezuma smoke shop to relinquish it, the nation announced Monday. In a news release, the nation's leadership council said that a writ of execution was issued Friday by Cayuga Nation Tribal Court ordering Dusty Parker to relinquish the 7153 Route 90 premises of smoke shop Pipekeepers. The order is the culmination of legal proceedings that started in 2021 when Parker began selling tobacco and cannabis under the guise of nation sovereignty, the release continued.
