Wednesday’s Weather At Your Fingertips
East Texas (KLTV/KTRE) - Here is the Weather Where You Live... The last HOT day for a while is expected today. A July Cold Front moves through northern areas late this evening, then through all of ETX by late tomorrow. Cooler Temps and More Rain is expected. Showers/thunderstorms have already moved through the northern sections of ETX this afternoon and more are likely through tonight/early tomorrow morning. How this all plays out will totally depend on the movement of the cold front. There is a Marginal Risk (Risk 1 of 5) for areas north of a line from south of Athens and Tyler to Longview to Marshall through the overnight period. As the front moves southward, the chances of rain should diminish later tomorrow into the early weekend. Better chances for scattered showers/thundershowers will exist on Friday and Saturday for Deep East Texas. Rain chances ramp up once again on Sunday and continue to be rather high through Tuesday, then slowly diminish on Wednesday of next week. Rainfall totals through the next 7 days should range from nearly 2.00″ to as much as 3.00″. A few spots could get more. At this time, most of the heavier rain will fall from late Sunday through Tuesday. Temperatures are likely to remain below normal (95°) through the next 7 days. Today, however, will be above normal. More to come. Have a great day.

Supreme Court grants Texas man a stay of execution just before his scheduled lethal injection
HUNTSVILLE, Texas (AP) — The U.S. Supreme Court granted a stay of execution for a Texas man 20 minutes before he was to receive a lethal injection Tuesday evening. The inmate has long maintained DNA testing would help prove he wasn’t responsible for the fatal stabbing of an 85-year-old woman during a home robbery decades ago. The nation’s high court issued the indefinite stay shortly before inmate Ruben Gutierrez was to have been taken to the death chamber of a Huntsville prison. Gutierrez was condemned for the 1998 killing of Escolastica Harrison at her home in Brownsville in Texas’ southern tip. Prosecutors said the killing of the mobile home park manager and retired teacher was part of an attempt to steal more than $600,000 she had hidden in her home because of her mistrust of banks. Gutierrez has sought DNA testing that he claims would help prove he had no role in her death. His attorneys have said there’s no physical or forensic evidence connecting him to the killing. Two others also were charged in the case.
