RALEIGH, N.C. (WNCN) — Kolt Ulm will be the new chief of staff for North Carolina Senate Leader Phil Berger.

Berger announced Ulm as his new chief of staff on Wednesday. Ulm, Berger’s current deputy chief of staff, will succeed Brian Fork, who is leaving to join the Carolina Hurricanes organization.

Brian Fork named CEO of Carolina Hurricanes

According to Berger’s office, Ulm joined the state Senate leader’s staff in 2013. He has held constituent liaison, policy advisor, and senior staff positions during his tenure. Ulm holds a B.A. in political science from Bethel University, an M.P.A. from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, and an M.B.A. from North Carolina State University.

“Kolt knows the ins and outs of the General Assembly and the Senate like nobody else,” Berger said in a statement. “During his time working in the legislature, he’s built strong relationships with nonpartisan staff, state agencies, and legislators. Kolt understands North Carolina and will play an integral role in working with Senate members on behalf of their constituents.”
