    NCDOT awards $14,000+ in scholarships to students at HBCUs and Minority-Serving Institutions

    RALEIGH, N.C. (WNCN) — Thirteen North Carolina students at HBCUs and Minority-Serving Institutions each received a $1,100 scholarship from the NC Department of Transportation’s Office of Historically Black Colleges and Universities Outreach.

    NCDOT announced the scholarships on Friday, which were provided through a $15,000 donation from the Southeastern Association of State Highway Transportation Officials.

    According to NCDOT, the eligible recipients are:

    • Amir Javadi of Greensboro (NC Agricultural and Technical University)
    • Jessica Dawes of Garner (NC Agricultural and Technical University)
    • Mustafa Noori of High Point (NC Agricultural and Technical University)
    • Zachaya Ozuna of Garner (NC Agricultural and Technical University)
    • Ahniyah Nicholson of Greensboro (NC Agricultural and Technical University)
    • Antonio Thorpe of Oxford (NC Agricultural and Technical University)
    • Keith Archibald of Charlotte (NC Agricultural and Technical University)
    • Teren McNeill of Cary (NC Agricultural and Technical University)
    • Isaak Gibson of Gastonia (NC Agricultural and Technical University)
    • Miles Durant of Durham (NC Agricultural and Technical University)
    • Justin Bullock II Greensboro (NC Agricultural and Technical University)
    • Chioma Nwakalor of Charlotte (UNC Pembroke)
    • Quentin Glass of Durham (Winston-Salem University)
    Saint Augustine’s receives $10,000 donation from Wayne County HBCU Alliance

    The eligible recipients are North Carolina residents with 24 college credit hours who are attending a North Carolina HBCU or Minority-Serving Institution and pursuing degrees related to the transportation field, according to NCDOT. A committee of NCDOT employees and others selected the scholarship winners by scoring each student’s academic achievements and a personal statement expressing the student’s interest in transportation.

    NCDOT says it plans to announce the application period for the 2025 scholarships later this year and post applications online .
