    Duke and UNC named NC’s top colleges in 2024-25 Forbes ranking

    RALEIGH, N.C. (WNCN) — Duke University was named North Carolina’s best school in Forbes’ 2024-25 America’s Top Colleges list, with the University of North Carolina coming in a close second.

    Duke ranked No. 20 in the nation, in addition to being the third-highest college in the South. UNC ranked No. 31 in the nation, making it North Carolina’s highest-ranking public college, as well as being the fifth-highest college in the South and the nation’s sixth-highest public college.

    North Carolina State University ranked No. 68 in the nation, making it the fourth-highest in the state after Duke, UNC, and Davidson College.

    A total of 11 colleges in North Carolina made the ranking:

    • Duke University — No. 20
    • University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill — No. 31
    • Davidson College — No. 48
    • North Carolina State University — No. 68
    • Wake Forest University — No. 88
    • Elon University — No. 159
    • University of North Carolina at Charlotte — No. 225
    • Appalachian State University — No. 256
    • East Carolina University — No. 313
    • North Carolina AT&T State University — No. 434
    • University of North Carolina Wilmington — No. 482
