GREENSBORO, N.C. (WGHP) — One of Greensboro’s historic homes is for sale. The Julian Price Mansion is ready for its new owners.

The previous owners, Eric and Michael Fuko-Rizo, spent eight years restoring the mansion to its former glory. Now they are ready for their next project.

$5.25 million is the price tag for the Hillside Mansion. Kay Chesnutt, the listing agent, said that’s the right price tag for as much work as Eric and Michael put into the home.

“It was in disrepair,” Chesnutt said.

The Julian Price House was in bad shape when Eric and Michael took ownership in 2016.

“It was always a sad sight to ride past it,” Chesnutt said.

After eight years of repairs and renovations, the couple breathed new life into the home. Now they’re ready to open the door for someone else.

“Michael and Eric did a really wonderful job of … restoring it with its historical integrity and also modernizing what needs to be modernized,” said Kathryn McDowell with Preservation Greensboro. “The kitchen is a great example of modern fixes with historical integrity still intact.”

The mansion was named to the National Register of Historic Places in 1980. The family who built it has a pretty impressive story.

“Julian Price is significant not only to the culture here in Greensboro but statewide. He started low man on the totem pole at Jefferson Financial and worked his way up all the way to being the president of Jefferson Financial,” McDowell said.

Price made plans to build the Hillside Mansion in 1929.

“It was built by Charles Hartman who was a famous New York architect. He also did the Jefferson Standard building, which is now known as Lincoln Financial,” Chesnutt said.

“It’s significant because it holds a good portion of property in a very specific, well-known portion of Greensboro,” McDowell said.

Over the course of 95 years, some owners took good care of the home, and others neglected it. Its most recent owners ensured the home can be enjoyed for generations to come.

Eric and Michael worked to preserve the past, and that’s something they hope the new owners will do as well.

“While historic properties being sold can worry a preservationist, it also is a good thing. It’s showing the evolution of the area,” McDowell said.

Interested buyers will only be able to see it by appointment only.
