DURHAM, N.C. (WNCN) — Dozens of state agencies joined together for the state of North Carolina Career Expo Monday.

Hundreds of people lined up outside the Sheraton Imperial Hotel in Durham to talk with recruiters.

“We still have high vacancy rates. They’re slowly starting to go down but they’re nowhere near where they were pre-pandemic. We have over 1,000 vacancies that we’re recruiting for on a daily basis,” said Kristin Siemek, State Talent Acquisition Manager.

Many agencies told CBS 17 they’re looking for people to work in a number of different departments.

“We have quite a few vacancies, very hard to fill in the attorney/paralegal space as well as the forensic scientists,” said Kristen Bierline, HR Director for the NC DOJ.  “We’re actively recruiting for financial investigators for our Medicaid fraud division that recently expanded through our state budget and so we’re always looking for good quality people in that area.”

A number of state colleges and universities also took part including Fayetteville State University, East Carolina University, North Carolina State University and UNC-Wilmington. They also had information sessions throughout the day.

For those who couldn’t attend the expo, the state says you can reach out to recruiters from agencies that you’re interested in. You can find more information here .
