City of Birmingham launches down payment assistance program

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ( WIAT ) — The City of Birmingham Community Development and Neighborhood Housing Services have announced the launch of the “Ready to Own” program.

The program will provide approximately 50 homebuyers the ability to receive up to $10,000 towards closing for homes for sale in Birmingham. Participants will receive homebuyer education and will have access to additional funds from local partners that may be applied to their closing.

The program provides forgivable loans of up to $10,000 to eligible individuals and families whose incomes are 80% or below the Area Median Income for the city of Birmingham as defined by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.
