NORTHPORT, Ala. ( WIAT ) —The annual Doodle for Google contest returns for the 16th year to showcase student artwork. 2024’s competition will feature a special entry from Alabama.

Hannah King from King Academy Homeschool in Northport is one of the 55 state and territory winners.

In January, Google invited K-12 grade students across the U.S. to join the competition with the prompt “My wish for the next 25 years…”

King’s entry is a part of the fourth to fifth-grade group, titled “A Garden of Wonders.” She hand-sculpted each of the flowers in her piece, showcasing the value of handcrafted works of art.

According to Google, King’s wish for the next 25 years is “for kids around the world to use their hands to tend and care for our world as you would a garden.”

The public is invited to vote for their favorite Doodle at doodle4google.com to help determine who will go on to become one of five national finalists, one of whom will be Google’s national winner.

The National Winner’s artwork will be displayed on Google.com for one day. They will also receive a $55,000 college scholarship, a $50,000 technology package for their school and other Google swag.
