PELHAM, Ala. ( WIAT ) — The Birmingham Bulls announced Thursday they signed head coach Craig Simchuk and associate head coach Kevin Kerr to “multi-year” contract extensions.

Simchuk has served as Birmingham’s head coach since the 2020-21 season, while Kerr joined the coaching staff the following campaign. In the past two seasons, the pair have won 75 games and appeared in the President’s Cup Finals.

They led the Bulls to the first Southern Professional Hockey League regular-season championship in franchise history with a 38-9-6-3 record for the 2023-24 campaign. Despite holding the No. 1 seed in the President’s Cup Playoffs, Birmingham fell in the quarterfinals to the No. 8 seed Evansville Thunderbolts.

In the 2022-23 season, the Bulls went 37-16-2-2 and finished second in the league. They advanced to the President’s Cup Finals and lost to the Roanoke Rail Yard Dawgs in four games.

“We are excited to have the strongest set of Coaches in the league remain ‘intact’ for the future and look forward to their continued winning traditions,” said Birmingham Bulls Governor Kurt Dinga in a statement.
