Retired Alabama military couple’s home ignored by home property maintenance

MADISON, Ala. ( WHNT ) — A couple who retired from military service returned home and moved into what they thought would be their dream home.

But their stay has been anything but a dream.

Raymond and Ciera Sanchez said the management has been no help.

“In this situation, it’s like, what do I do?” Raymond Sanchez asked. “You’re not taking care of me and my family, and we served our country. I don’t know what else to do.”

Raymond and Ciera Sanchez served two tours of duty in Iraq and Afghanistan. After discharge, while expecting the birth of their child, they moved into their first home in Madison in September.

Since then, their days have been anything but bliss. Flooding and sewer issues that started weeks later have ruined their return home, and the property manager and the homeowners have ignored their pleas to make the repairs.

“I asked them what is the issue? Why are you not letting me in on the information that’s going on with the house, and also what are they doing to remedy the issue?” Sanchez said.

Sanchez sent dozens of requests for maintenance over to Pathlight Property Management. According to the rental agreement, the management company was hired by HPA Acquisitions’ or Home Partners of America in Plano, Texas.

“I kept trying to reach out to this company over and over and over again, and yet they never responded,” Sanchez said.

They started fixing things on their own, even purchasing an air conditioner to mount in the wall after the downstairs HVAC unit failed in April.

But with three small children, the expenses for the repairs are taking a financial toll.

“I don’t know what to say about all of this,” Sanchez said. “It’s just been very difficult for me and my family.”

The Sanchezes said they may have to uproot their family from this home and move once again.

News 19 has since reached out to the property managers and the owners of the home for an answer to these issues, and they did promise a response.
