80-year-old inmate at Donaldson prison dies

BESSEMER, Ala. ( WIAT ) — An 80-year-old inmate at William Donaldson Correctional Facility has died after experiencing chest pains Tuesday.

Gary Wayne Moore, who was serving a sentence on a rape and sexual abuse conviction out of Morgan County. According to the Jefferson County Coroner’s Office, Moore complained to prison staff about chest pains he was having at approximately 3 a.m. Tuesday. After being taken to UAB Hospital, Moore was pronounced dead at 9:39 a.m.

No evidence of trauma or foul play has been found to be associated with Moore’s death. The final cause of death will be determined through additional laboratory studies.

The Alabama Department of Corrections is investigating the circumstances surrounding Moore’s death.
