Tonight: A passing shower is possible early. Otherwise mostly clear, warm, and muggy with morning lows in the middle 70s.

Friday: Steamy weather continues with highs in the middle 90s. Due to the combination of heat and humidity, a Heat Advisory has been issued for West Alabama where heat index values will run as high as 108.

Showers and storms increase during the afternoon when a few could become strong to possibly severe over North Alabama. While we aren’t expecting a widespread issue with severe weather, the storms will be an inconvenience through Friday evening.

Weekend: The severe threat shifts farther south Saturday to include all of Central and North Alabama. Once again, the primary threat is gusty wind, heavy downpours, and frequent lightning. This will not be an all day washout, but have a plan B for any outdoor activities.

A few additional isolated to scattered storms redevelop Sunday, followed by a change to slightly cooler and less humid weather next week.

Tracking the Tropics: Hurricane Ernesto is located north of Puerto Rico as a category 1 storm. Ernesto is expected to strengthen before passing near Bermuda late Friday night or early Saturday as a strong category 2 or lower end category 3. We are not expecting any significant impacts for The U.S. East Coast or Gulf of Mexico.
