    1 dead, over a dozen displaced following Center Point apartment fire

    CENTER POINT, Ala. ( WIAT ) — One person is dead and several families are without a home following a large apartment fire in Center Point.

    Man killed outside Birmingham motel identified

    The fire happened just after midnight at an apartment complex on the 1900 block of E Bend Circle and crews are still on the scene this morning.

    According to the Red Cross, around 20-25 people were evacuated from the complex and at least ten units were destroyed in the fire. The organization is offering shelter to those displaced by the fire.

    The person killed was an adult male, according to the Jefferson County Coroner’s Office. No other information is available regarding their identity at this time.

    Center Point Battalion Chief Chris Horn said crews will be working to contain and suppress the fire throughout the morning and requested the public stay away from the area.
