Woman being held at Bessemer City Jail dies

BESSEMER, Ala. ( WIAT ) — A 35-year-old woman being held at the Bessemer City Jail died Thursday afternoon.

According to the Jefferson County Coroner’s Office, Ebony Tyner, of Adger, was found unresponsive inside a holding cell around 5:00 p.m. She was taken to UAB Medical West Hospital where she died a little under an hour later.

The Bessemer Police Department continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding Tyner’s death. It is unclear why Tyner was being detained at the jail.
