    Strong to severe storms this weekend, Turning less humid next week

    Tonight: It will be mostly cloudy and muggy overnight with some lingering showers and storms. Lows will be in the lower to middle 70s.

    Weekend Outlook : The muggy weather will continue on Saturday ahead of a cold front. An outflow from a morning MCS will move across Central Alabama. This will set off scattered storms between Noon and 11 PM.

    Some storms could be strong to severe with gusty winds, hail, and heavy rain. SPC has placed Central Alabama in a Level 1/5 Marginal Risk for severe weather. The main threats are gusty winds up to 60 mph and large hail. Highs will be in the lower to middle 90s, and the heat index will be around 105° before it storms. A Heat Advisory is in effect until 9 PM.

    The cold front will move across Alabama on Sunday. It will be partly cloudy with scattered showers and storms mainly along and south of I-20 between Noon and 6 PM. Highs will be in the lower 90s, and the heat index around 100-105°. It will become less humid on Sunday night with cooler lows in the upper 60s.

    SPC has placed parts of South-Central Alabama in a Level 2/5 Slight Risk, and north of there in a Level 1/5 Marginal Risk for severe weather. The main threat is gusty winds up to 60 mph.

    Next Week’s Outlook : The cold front will move into the northern Gulf of Mexico to start the new week. Wonderful weather returns to Alabama! This will allow for sunny, drier, and less humid air Monday through Wednesday. Highs will be in the upper 80s, and lows will be in the 60s with comfortable air.

    It will become a little more humid on Thursday and Friday with a low chance for a shower. Highs will be around 90° each day.

    Tracking the Tropics : Category 2 Hurricane Ernesto continues to track north toward Bermuda. It will cross over the Islands tonight into Saturday, Then it will move into the North Atlantic toward Nova Scotia Sunday into Monday. Ernesto will turn NE and pick up speed as it loses its tropical characteristics on Monday into next week.
