    Cullman County crash involving Ford Mustang leaves 21-year-old woman dead

    CULLMAN COUNTY, Ala. ( WIAT ) — A 21-year-old Cullman County woman was killed in crash involving a Ford Mustang on I-65 Saturday evening, the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency reports.

    Mirra Bride Dot Popee Chafin, of Vinemont, was fatally injured when the Mustang she was driving departed the road, hit a ditch and overturned. The crash occurred about seven miles south of Dodge City.

    Chafin, who was reportedly not wearing a seat belt, was ejected from the Mustang. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

    The ALEA also stated another passenger in the Mustang was not wearing a seat belt. Lara Phillips, a 23-year-old woman from Cullman, was also ejected. Phillips sustained injuries and airlifted to UAB Hospital.

    The ALEA noted after the Ford was left unoccupied, it entered oncoming traffic. The Mustang and a Toyota Sienna collided. Suzanne Woods, a 56-year-old woman from Hayden, was driving the Sienna. Woods was taken to UAB Hospital with injuries.

    The crashes occurred around 6:30 p.m., and troopers with the ALEA’s Highway Patrol Division are investigating them.
